The jacket I want to knit is in american yarn I dont know the ply of worsted yarn can you help?
Worsted is 10 ply or aran weight. There is a handy online chart at the link below to check, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and all the yarn conversions are there.

Fairly sure its 4 ply. The size of the needles can be an indication of what yarm you need.

I don’t understand worsted either. Or Aran or Chunky. Those are terms which really don’t tell you very much. Do you know the weight of the yarn you are supposed to use? Then you can use another yarn that has that same weight. That is, you need to find the yard per pound of the yarn they specify, and then you can substitute any yarn with that same weight per pound. You will also want to check the amount of twist too, to give you the hand of the fabric you want.
However, you can knit a swatch of the yarn that you think might work. See if you can get gauge as in the pattern. If so, then that yarn will work just as well, to get the size you want. If possible, use any yarn you like, and make adjustments to the number of stitches and rows, if possible, so it fits you. But that involves too much work for most of us!
