I’ve been knitting for 20 years and this one has me really, really confused.
According to the directions, you cast on 133 stitches (for size medium) but the pattern (purling with thin knited stripes) only uses 80 stitches, so what do I do with the other 53 stitches?!?
For clarification:
CO 133, do not join.
Row1: Slip one stitch knitwise, purl 6 then *knit 2, purl 11* 3 times. That is a the pattern. Then you knit 35 stitches for the front panel and continue on the pattern stitch (knit 2, purl 11) 3 more times.
I tried searching on the web and the only thing I could find was instructions on what K and P mean. ARGH! Hope you folks can help, Please?
Woah…that’s pretty messed up. Did you pay for the pattern? I would contact the publisher and see if it was a misprint, and if it wasn’t have them email you clarification.
Oh I hate that!
Good luck!

How do you get 80sts with 53 left over?
From what you have written here – Row 1 actually uses 121sts with 12 left over.
There is obviously a problem somewhere – either with the pattern or how you are reading it.
If the smaller size says to cast on 121sts – then you are reading the instructions for the wrong size.
Go back and carefully read all of the instructions again to make sure.

Well, for that first row, I have 126 stitches. Either way, 133 isn’t going to work. I need to see the instructions… sometimes people read them incorrectly. There may be some explanation. Where is the pattern?

there is a big error in that pattern, contact the person who made this pattern and tell them what you told us.

I also suspect that you have missed a section of the pattern here. Tell us what the pattern’s name is and where you found it (on-line give us the URL for it) so that we can see exactly what’s going on here. It almost sounds like a child’s sweater knit in the round, in which case you possibly need another front panel and band repeat, but the stitches don’t match that either.
