You can do the … You can do the broomstick lace in the shape of a triangle. You can do it gradually, by decreasing 1 or 2 stitches on each end – thus taking only 3 loops off, then 2 loops off, then 1 on each end. Or you can completely slip stitch and/or skip over where you’d normally do the first and last set of 5 loops. Not exactly easy, but do-able.
To decrease you … To decrease you need to be on a row that you’d normally start to pull up loops. This time however you would “reverse slip stitch” in the first 5 sc (crocheting the normal slip stitch backwards). Then on the 6th sc, you’ll start pulling up your loops. Do that until almost the very end. Now completely skip the last 5 sc. For the next row, you would do your normal pulling off loops in groups of 5 and do 5 sc. You’ll have 2 less groupings per row. Do this pattern for any row you want to decrease.

Thanks for the … Thanks for the kindness! You won’t believe this – but it’s actually Lion Brand 100% Wool yarn (cream color) dyed with — Kool Aid! Cherry, Orange and Grape flavored. If you hand wash the scarf, the color doesn’t fade or come out. The fruity smell from the Kool-Aid fades after about a week from dyeing it as well. The best part is you get the nicest gradient patterns and shades.

Hi – you will still … Hi – you will still have to do another 5 single crochets inside the initial set of loops. The chain 1 is more of a slip stitch that helps hold the first sets of loops for each row in place. And when you work on the row after that, you’ll just pull loops up from the 5 single crochets below and ignore the previous row’s chain 1.
