I am having a problem with my knitting?

March 4th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Basic Knitting

I just started my first real pattern. I’m knitting a blanket. It’s very basic, all knitting and purling. But for some reason i keep ending each row with an extra stitch. I’ll start out with 90, and by the time i get to the end i have an 91, so I knit 2 together to get rid of it. I’m using circular needles for the first time so idk if im doing something wrong with them. Does anyone know what could cause this?!

The only way you can be adding a stitch is by accidentally picking one up, most likely during your purl row? You can get plastic circles to mark off 20 stitches, 20 stitches, etc., then you can quickly see where you are picking up the extra stitch and correct it. How are you making a blanket using circular needles? I’m a knitter and don’t understand why you would be knitting in the round for a blanket? Have fun. I love knitting.

you will have a jagged edge on each end and it will turn to the next row

your probably splitting a stitch, in other words your putting the needle through the wool of ONE stitch, which is making it two, hence your ending up with the extra one.
