Do I have to have a garter edge on my bulky knit scarf?

I’m knitting with a super bulky yarn. (about 14 stitches to the row) Do I have to have a garter stitch on the edge to keep it from rolling in? It may still roll even though it is bulky. Try a couple of stitches of border; also block the scarf thoroughly when you are done.

When knitting, how do I cast off in rib stitch?

And links would be helpful 😀 You cast off in pattern, IOW if your rib is knit1, purl 1 you knit the stitch you should knit and purl the stitch you should purl. If your rib is a different combintation, again you knit what should be knit and purl what should be purled.
